Thomas Cook rebooks flights to Spain due to a strike

A 24 hour strike in the transport sector had more impact than expected. Because the tour operator of Thomas Cook feared that this strike would have a great impact on the foreseen schedules he decided to delay the flights from over  1000 people there and back with one day. This meant for the travelers  that their flight of the 29th of September changed to the 30th of September. The spokesman of the tour operator pointed out that everybody who has booked would be contacted personally, furthermore he said that the extra night in Spain would be paid by Tomas Cook and also that they would refund the lost night.

  1. I think Thomas cook acted correctly given the situation. Due to the strike their hands were tied and left them with no other option than delaying those flights. Although I believe that they should have prevented the intern dispute from escalating. Their service rating sure dropped a few levels in excellence. Of course I agree that too much power has been given to the unions, but this is a well known fact and they should’ve acted as such. Now they not only lost customers confidence, they also made huge costs. These costs could have been acceptable as long as their clientele would have been spared. Because I believe the power of your customers is in general heavily underestimated. In this particular case it might have been wiser to spend their energy and money in preventing the crisis than damage repair afterwards.
